Who?

Asster is a care facility located in Sint-Truiden, which offers both care at home and treatment in a psychiatric hospital. It also has a PVT (psychiatric care home), where patients (called residents) can stay and be provided with assistance temporarily or permanently.

The PVT:
They call their Psychiatric Care Home or PVT "De Luwte". It offers a residential facility for people with chronic psychiatric problems. The people that stay in a PCH require a medically (physical & psychological) stable condition and don't need or require intensive specialized care.

For Asster, the characteristics of living in their PCH are: "the creation of homely coziness, the stimulation of autonomy, the provision of meaningful daytime activities and the creation of an appropriate framework to optimize family contacts".

The residences:
They split up their residences or houses in Luwte 1, 2 and 3. In each "home" a different group of people with a different need for care stay together.

There are a total of 105 residents in the PVT. The average age of the residents is 61, with the youngest being 23 and the oldest 91. 32 of them are women and 73 men.

Luwte 1:
Here 45 residents with chronic psychiatric problems reside in three self-contained homes. Each home is additionally divided into two separate living areas with their own kitchen and sitting area.

House 1 is the PVT-MIN. This is where residents stay who, with limited supervision, achieve maximum autonomous living levels.

House 2 and 3 house thirty residents who require permanent supervision.

Luwte 2:
Here, 25 residents live in two separate homes, each of which is further divided into two living groups with their own sitting areas.

One of the living groups in Luwte 1 is the PVT-PLUS. Here are 4 residents with very disruptive behavior reside under the supervision of their own supervisory.

The other living groups (Luwte 2 + 3) house 21 residents in need of permanent supervision.

Luwte 3:
This unit provides residence for 40 residents in three separate living groups.

House 1 and 2 are the residences for thirty residents with intellectual disabilities.

House 3 houses about 14 residents in need of permanent supervision.

Luwte 1 (S) and Luwte 3 (P) border on the garden as you can see on the plan. Where

Luwte 2 (I) doesn't. It is further away. But the residents are also allowed in the garden.
